ἔχουσιν αἰτίαν ἀποδοῦναι, καθάπερ οὐδὲ τῆς ἐν τοῖς ἤθεσι
διαφορᾶς, καθ’ ἣν τὰ μὲν θυμικὰ, τὰ δὲ ἄθυμα, καὶ τὰ
μὲν συνετὰ, τὰ δὲ οὐ φαίνεται. ἐν Σκύθαις μὲν γὰρ εἷς
ἀνὴρ ἐγένετο φιλόσοφος, Ἀθήνῃσι δὲ πολλοὶ τοιοῦτοι.
πάλιν δ’ ἐν Ἀβδήροις ἀσύνετοι πολλοὶ, τοιοῦτοι δ’ Ἀθήνῃσιν
ὀλίγοι.
