وهي الأربعة الأخلاط، أعني الدم والبلغم والمرّة الصفراء والمرّة السوداء، ومنها أقرب ما يكون، وهي الأعضاء التي بدن كلّ نوع من أنواع الحيوان مخصوص منها بشيء، أعني الأعضاء المتشابهة الأجزاء بمنزلة الشحم واللحم والقرون والأنياب والمخّ والمخاليب.
(٢) والعنصر هو جزء مفرد بسيط للشيء الذي هو عنصر له، والشيء المفرد البسيط علی وجهين، أحدهما عند الحسّ والآخر عند الطبيعة. البسيط المفرد عند الحسّ بمنزلة العصبة والعظم، فإنّ هذه وإن كانت عند الحسّ بسيطة مفردة إلّا أنّها في طبيعتها مركّبة من النار والهواء والماء والأرض، وأمّا البسيط المفرد عند الطبيعة، وهو البسيط الحقّ، فهو بمنزلة النار والهواء والماء والأرض، لأنّ هذه ليس علمنا بأنّها عناصر علم حسّيّ بل علم عقليّ.
